I've always been an active person. Racing, basketball, water-skiing, jet-skiing, and snow skiing are some of the activities I enjoy.

I've always loved water sports. If I can find a jet ski, I love to tool around.

I water-ski with a Kanski, a 6 foot by 13 inch wide ski with a "bucket" on it to sit in. We used to have an 18 foot Sea Ray which makes time spent on the lake most enjoyable. (Then my parents sold it :-( )

I snow skied for a week in Telluride. This was quite an experience. It was very fun and I'd like to try it again someday, probably at Winter Park, since they have an excellent disabled skiing program.

These are hobbies, but there was a period in my life when sports were more than that. Sports played a major role in my life during my college years at The University of Texas at Arlington. I'll tell you a little about those experiences and show you even more.

When I entered college, a friend of mine from high school, Chris Goad, strongly encouraged me to try out wheelchair racing. Chris is a quadraplegic from a diving accident during our junior year at Martin High School. After a few months I decided to give it a try. Within the first week I was beating the guys who had been training for years in the 100m. That started my desire to be the best. Through this avenue, my coach, Jim Hayes, director of Handicapped Student Services at UTA, got me interested in playing wheelchair basketball for the university. Both of these opportunities took me farther than I had ever imagined.
